Cyber criminal attacks are constantly becoming more sophisticated. The volume of malware-laced emails rose significantly during the third quarter of this year, according to a Quarterly Threat Report published by Proofpoint. This significant rise in malware phishing attacks is attributed to malicious URLs within the emails. The majority of these malicious attacks contained ransomware, at 64% of all email attacks, or banking Trojans, at 24% of all of the malware.
Another recent study conducted by Intermedia, found that of 1,000 workers victimized by a ransomware attack, 59 percent paid the ransom out of pocket with 37 percent passing the cost along to their company. If you receive Ransomware threats, do not click on any links, download any attachments, or reply to these criminals. Contact your manager or IT team immediately for help. Do not fall victim to their demands.
